Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Simien Mountains Trekking to Sankaber (3240m). Arrive in Gondar and our guide will be waiting for you with a vehicle. Get a quick breakfast in Gondar and then drive to the Simien Mountains entrance. You'll have a short trek to the first camp, Sankaber. Spend the evening sharing cultures and stories while getting to know your guide, scout, and mule man. Camp out with the Gelada Baboons.
Day 2: Simien Mountains Trekking to Geech (3600m). Begin your trek from Sankaber. You'll hike along the escarpment and see one of the park's most amazing waterfalls. Keep your eyes open for Gelada Baboons, Klipspringer, and a variety of birds. You'll arrive at Geech Camp in the early afternoon, where food and drinks will be waiting for you. You can spend an optional extra acclimatization day here.
Day 3: Simien Mountains Trekking to Chenek (3620m). Start out in the morning for the summit of Imet Gogo (3926m). This summit offers some of the best views in the park. Hike for the day along the Northeastern escarpment and descend into Chenek camp in the late afternoon. Look out for Walia Ibex around camp. Eat a well deserved hot dinner prepared by our chef. Drink a couple of beers and enjoy a beautiful sunset over the Simien Mountains.
Day 4: Simien Mountains Trekking to Ambiko (3200m). Start hiking towards Bawhit Pass in the morning. Once you reach it, it's a long hike down to the Mesheha valley. Cool off in the river and make a final push up to Ambiko camp. Rest up for tomorrow's summit push to Mount Ras Dashen!
Day 5: Summit Mount Ras Dashen! (4620m). Wake up and get moving early - around 4:30 am. You'll stand on top of Mount Ras Dashen around 10:00 am! Take photos and hang out on the summit. We'll deliver the jackets that you have brought from so far away to shepherd children who actually live near the summit of Mount Ras Dashen. Back to Ambiko to relax and celebrate!
Day 6: Return to Gondar - Celebrate! Another early start from Ambiko. Hike back to Chenek camp where a vehicle will be waiting for you. Eat lunch in Debark and then drive to Gondar. Relax and enjoy the view of Gondar from your hilltop hotel as you think back on your accomplishment of climbing Ras Dashen.
Pre/Post trip option: Really experience Ethiopia by volunteering in Debark and/or staying with an Ethiopian family.
